The next day we drove to Barcelona where we would spend 48 hours.
On the first evening we went to Albert Adria’s Tickets to attend the presentation of the OAD European restaurant awards for 2015, where some of the most talented chefs in Europe would be cooking. We were expecting and would have preferred a sit down dinner, but the event was good fun. For the record, the number 1 restaurants in Europe for 2015 was Azurmendi which we visited in September (http://ourfancyworld.com/spain-part-3/).
The following evening we dined at Disfrutar , the restaurant that three of elBulli’s head chefs opened 5-6 months ago. Unfortunately, due to its popularity we never got a chance to eat at elBulli therefore it’s impossible for us to make the comparison, but we enjoying the evening and most of the dishes. Although molecular techniques are no longer as popular as they used to be, you can easily understand how some of them helped elBulli gain its status; you’ll always remember the dishes that made you smile and creativity, when used consciously, can often trigger that smile.
